Coppelia Act II and Variations
A superb performance by Ballet First dancers at the Rhodes Arts Complex this year.Â
One of the highlights of the show was Coppelia Act 2 with an opportunity for the younger dancers to play admirably, the Dolls in Dr. Coppelius’ workshop. Lead role of Swanilda was performed by Paige Norgate, dancing with assurance throughout, mastering technical challenges with aplomb and style.
The audience enjoyed the amusing tale of Swanilda and her friends, danced by our advanced Pointe students, who steal into Dr. Coppelius’ workshop of dolls and create havoc. An amusing and confident interpretation of the role of Franz, was given by Ollie Grant, currently an Associate at Central School of Ballet.
The second half of the programme saw a diverse mix of Waltz of the Flowers from the Nutcracker Suite, a confident performance of Ravels’ Bolero, Swan Lake pas de Trois – danced with technical skill by 3 advanced students, plus a mixed programme of Contemporary works, prominent classical Variations and our younger dancers from Primary Ballet classes enthralled the audience as always. The youngest students aged just 3-4 yrs performed an enchanting dance set in a woodland glade – always a highlight of the show!
Performance reviews commented on the high standard of dancing from all, the talented and technically secure advanced Pointe students and the diverse mixed programme. Well done to all!
