Dance Workshop 18th February 2012

Dance students are taking part in a workshop on Saturday 18th February 2012 at St. Johns ARC which will include a Classical Ballet class, Repertoire classes and the new Plyometric Jump training class newly added to the Ballet First timetable. In the Repertoire class students will be learning the dance of the four Cygnets from Swan Lake and also solo variations from Sleeping Beauty.

Plyometric Jump Training Classes

Ballet First is offering the new Plyometric Jump training classes from mid February 2012. Principal Theresa Crumb attended a workshop with resident Physiotherapist Janet Briggs MSc, MCSP, SRP of the Royal Ballet School, London to gain knowledge and expertise in Plyometric dance training and how this supports the young dancer. Plyometric Jump Training is additional training for students aged 11 yrs. upwards to improve strength, stamina, speed of movement and suppleness, as well as good dynamic stability which can all help enhance a dancer’s general fitness. It has long been acknowledged that ballet training alone is not sufficient to prepare a dancer for a career as a professional. The Royal Ballet School introduced this new form of additional training three years ago and Ballet First will also now be offering Plyometric Jump Training to support its own dancers.
